AccessBy JR train: From Fukui station on the JR Hokuriku Honsen line,
  1. 1) 20 mins by taxi
  2. 2) 35 mins by direct bus service from #5 bus terminal located 5 mins’ walk east of Fukui station. 
    (Approximately 4 runs on weekdays, 6 on weekends)
  3. 3) Change to Echizen Tetsudo Railway to Eiheiji-guchi station, followed by taxi or bus.

  • To visit:
    Eiheiji is open every day to visitors during daytime hours
    May - October: until 5:00 p.m.; November - April: until 4:30 p.m
    Admission: 500yen. No reservation necessary.
  • To stay: 
    Due to the limited number of rooms, Eiheiji can accommodate only those affiliated with Soto Zen Buddhist organizations.
    Reservation is necessary at least one month prior to your arrival using the application form issued by Eiheiji.
    Please request a form and further information by letter (or fax) to the International Department of Eiheiji in Japanese or English.
    Please include the following information:
    1) Name, 2) Address, 3) Phone/Fax number (+country code), 4) Kind of accommodation required, and the reason 5) Preferred date of arrival, 6) Your affiliation with Soto Zen Buddhism (mandatory).
  • All the applications should be made by the individual applicant, not an agency.
    Please understand that Eiheiji may not be able to comply with your request if rooms and staff are unavailable.
