Take a journey back in time to the days of the Romans in the ancient cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Pompeii is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and draws travellers from across the world each year to explore its ruins.
Pompeii was buried under lava and ash from Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD and lay forgotten for hundreds of years. The well preserved ruins of this ancient city now offer an insight into Roman history. Frescoes and mosaics adorn some of the walls of its structures, like theDionysiac Frieze and the city has baths, an amphitheatre, Roman temples and brothels.
The ruins of the residential Roman city of Herculaneum are also impressive and it has one of the best preserved Roman baths in Europe. Offering a glimpse into the past, the ruins of the ancient cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum are a must see in Italy.

Herculaneum
The tour starts from the Achille Lauro Parking Area in Sorrento at 0810h (8:10am). Accompanied by a guide you will travel along a beautiful coastal road through Castellammare di Stabia and join the highway to Herculaneum.
Herculaneum was buried by a river of volcanic mud in 79 AD when Mount Vesuvius erupted. A residential Roman fishing and port town, it was rediscovered in 1709.
Take a guided tour of Herculaneum and see well preserved buildings like the House of the Argus, which probably belonged to a Roman noble, judging from its porticoed courtyard and dining area. Continue to the public baths which are among the best preserved Roman baths in Europe and see deep pools, stucco friezes and bas reliefs. The House of Neptune and Amphitrite has a beautiful mosaic as well as a portrait of the owners of the household.
You will also have free time to walk around this ancient city at leisure before setting out for Pompeii.
Pompeii is one of the most important archaeological sites in Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was buried under lava and ash from Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD and lay forgotten for hundreds of years. Excavations began in the 18th century and are still being carried out. Your guide will take you along the ancient streets of Pompeii for a glimpse into the lives of the Romans.
You will visit many of the best-preserved Roman structures in the ancient city, such as the Anfiteatro, which is the oldest known Roman amphitheatre in the world and was capable of holding up to 20,000 spectators or the Villa dei Misteri, which is adorned with the beautiful fresco Dionysiac Frieze.
After your guided tour you will return to Sorrento. You will be dropped at the Achille Lauro Parking Area at around 1615h (4:15pm).

I really loved the tour, but by the time I returned I could barely shower and go to bed, very exhausting for those of us who are not young, anymore.

Nancy the tour guide absolutely made it. A little more organisation at the Bus station in Sorento may have helped (i.e. make it clear what bay the bus will b eparked in at what time so that customers aren't running around asking every bus driver without a sign on their inside window).

From pickup in the Lauro parking spot beind our apartment to the end of the tour we had a great day. The toilet stop was a little ridiculous you would think with the amount of visitors to Herculaneum and Pompeii that more conveniences would be provided for the many tourists at the actual sites. Theresa our guide was lovely and informative and very pleasant. The wonders of these sites were overwhelming and I have achieved a lifelong dream to walk in Pompeii and to see Herculaneum. Great day out all round. Would recommend it to others as the value was good. Kathy and John (Nelson Bay Australia)

Really enjoyed this tour and the information provided from Teresa. Herculaneum was excellent but Pompeii was just too quick and we felt that we didn't see everything we wanted to see. The main disappointment was the poor quality of the lunch at the restaurant organised by the operator. This was the only real negative.

We had a really good time and our guide, Lia, was very good. The only thing we would've changed was to see Pompeii first in morning when cooler and less crowded and Ercolano after that on way back to Sorrento. Otherwise, it was well worth the time and money - much less expensive than other tours we looked at.
